street
What do you mean there is no lane over here on the far left? Or in between lanes? Or anywhere I damn well feel like driving my scooter!
countryside
This is an example of what it looks like around here when you get a bit out of town. This is a good showing of an old palm grove with a newer one planted in front. Then there is this cover crop which seems to grow in between the rows of palms...it has runners like peas or squash or grapes even...on a mission to find out what it is!

Devin's new buddy
This guy, who led Nevi on her trail ride, was not sure why we were asking him to turn around so we could take a picture...but I think he got our english eventually. We need more Malay tutoring for sure!
( perhaps this will be a new advertisement for Le Bistro Montage PDX!!!!! Devin is on the website already)
Riding again
Nevi is really becoming quite interested in anything Equine. She has a great deal of love and respect for her cousin, Ellery who is very much into horses. Well, it has rubbed off. Little did we know in Malaysia there would be so many opportunites for pony rides! This one at the Rider's Lodge was the best cause it was 30 minutes long, and they walked all through the woods on trails! I think this child is ready to ride on her own without anyone holding on...and she wants that independence. So look out when we get home- this girl wants riding lessons!
Rider's Lodge
We went on a day trip the other day to a place called the Rider's Lodge. Our hotel manager, Kumar used to work here. He said it was a place where Nevi could have a pony ride. So we hoped in the car and drove about 45 minutes from JB. It was really cool as we began to move away from the rows of shoplots along the road and move into more rural spaces. We drove through the endless palm groves and then turned in...down the long long driveway...and then wow....this building, the stables and lots of space! Believe it or not this building was built about 10-12 years ago. Nice job making it look Colonial, huh?
It is owned by an interesting couple. The husband grew up in Chicago and then lived in Australia for 20 years and now has been in Malaysia for 20 years and his wife , Agnus, a fabulously chatty chinese woman. There daughter is in the US going to college in CA and training in dressage~ I believe as an Olympic hopeful. Before they bought this place, they knew very little about keeping horses. They did ride, but that was it. Now they have 34 beautiful horses and an inn with 27 rooms!
